The area around the visitor centre has been developed as a wildlife demonstration garden. Here there are many features of interest including three ponds. These ponds are an important breeding site for the common frog, common toad and smooth newt. They also contain a large number of invertebrates including water beetles, water boatmen, pond snails and breeding damselflies and dragonflies.
